We just got back from a long weekend in Kentucky. Since we traveled on Monday, Tuesday now seems like Monday. I will be off all week now. It won't help that next weekend is a 3 day weekend as well.
We went to Kentucky to celebrate my Mom's 90th birthday. She is still driving, tending a huge garden and mowing her own lawn.
We arrived on Friday, which was her actual birthday. We took her out for dinner at Tumbleweed. Katie and Amanda gave her a box of candy, and flowers that Amanda picked out.
The actual party was Sunday night at a local Chinese buffet restaurant. It was nice to see old friends, and relatives we see rarely. Everyone had a nice time.
On Saturday, we took the girls to the Kentucky State Fair. It was a fun time. I loved looking at all the quilts. John liked seeing all the cakes - I think he watches too much Cake Boss.
The girls liked watching the baby ducks walk up the ramp to get food and slide back down into the water. They were not as enamored with the cows.
Of course, we hit the midway. Saturday was the only day they did not sell wristbands for the rides. That put a damper on what the girls rode, but probably saved us time standing in the sun waiting for them.
We tried "the" fair food of the year - the Donut Burger. Two Krispy Kreme donuts with a cheeseburger in the middle. It had tomato and lettuce too. Since one burger cost $7, we got one and each tasted it. It was interesting, and not nearly as gross as it sounds.
All in all it was a nice trip. Now back to reality.
